Wolfspeed to Present & Exhibit at WiPDA 2016

Wolfspeed, A Cree Company, is presenting, exhibiting, and partnering with the fourth annual IEEE Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications (WiPDA), which will take place November 7 – 9, 2016 at The Chancellor Hotel in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Presented by the IEEE Power Electronics and Electron Device Societies, as well as the Power Supply Manufacturers Association, WiPDA provides a forum for device scientists, circuit designers, and application engineers from the organization’s Power Electronics and Electron Devices Societies to share technology updates, research findings, development experience, and potential applications.

Wolfspeed’s CTO, Dr. John Palmour, was invited to give the opening keynote, and will deliver a technical address entitled “SiC MOSFET and Power Module Status and Market Development” from 8:15 – 8:45am in the Eureka Springs Ballroom to officially launch the conference portion of the event.

Additional Wolfspeed contributions to the WiPDA conference will include:

  • “The Next Generation of High Voltage (10kV) Silicon Carbide Power Modules,” which is scheduled to be presented by Wolfspeed’s Development Electronics Packaging Engineering Manager, Brandon Passmore, on Tuesday, November 8, from 1:15 – 1:40pm in Eureka Springs Ballroom 1&2;
  • “Bidirectional, SiC Module-Based Solid-State Circuit Breakers for 270VDC MEA/AEA Systems,” which is scheduled to be presented by Electronics Design Engineer, Jonathan Hayes, on Tuesday, November 8, from 3:25 – 3:50pm in Eureka Springs Ballroom 1&2;
  • and “Comparing the Switching Performance of SiC MOSFET Intrinsic Body Diode to Additional SiC Schottky Diodes in SiC Power Modules,” which is scheduled to be presented by Electronics Design Engineer, Austin Curbow, on Wednesday, November 9, from 4:55 – 5:20pm in Eureka Springs Ballroom 3&4.

As the Diamond Partner of WiPDA, Wolfspeed will also host the conference’s combined poster session and social banquet. This event is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm on Tuesday, November 8, and will be held in the Miller Room, which overlooks the University of Arkansas’ Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Football Stadium.

In between keynotes, technical sessions, and panel discussions, attendees will be invited to network in the exhibition area, where Wolfspeed will be showcasing the company’s latest SiC power devices, including its CAS325M12HM2 high-performance, 1200V, 325A, 62mm SiC half-bridge module. This device — which was the first fully qualified commercial power module from Wolfspeed’s Fayetteville operation — enables unprecedented efficiency and power density for high current power electronics, including: converters/inverters, motor drives, industrial electronics, and high performance electric vehicle systems, and was recently honored with the 2016 ECN IMPACT Award in the Passive Components and Discrete Semiconductors category.

Wolfspeed is also supporting the event through active participation in WiPDA leadership committees. Wolfspeed’s Business Development and Product Commercialization Engineer, Lauren Kegley, acted as this year’s Local Arrangements and Sponsorship Chair, while Power Modules Manufacturing Manager, Jared Hornberger, and Development Electronics Packaging Engineering Manager, Brandon Passmore, co-chaired the Keynote Committee.
